Reviving the blog...Changing the subtitle

We are sometimes not great at keeping our family and friends up to date with big changes in our lives. We started this blog when we went to Tanzania in 2011. We named the blog Hakuna Matata - meaning "No worries" in Kiswahili. We didn't realize at the time that they don't use that phrase in Tanzania. Instead, they say "Hamna shida". The subtitle was originally "Our adventures in Tanzania", but I've recently changed it to "Learning to let go - 1 Peter 5:7". I'll explain more in a bit.

Since Tanzania, we've been back in Indianapolis for 2 years and have recently had a pretty significant change. We expanded our family through domestic adoption and are now so blessed to have a sweet son...Elijah Matthew.

We are embarking on a big journey of parenthood and entering the world of medicine on the patient/family side instead of the healthcare provider side. Elijah has a bilateral cleft lip and palate, and we thought this blog would be a good place to keep friends and family up to date on where we are with his medical care.

Changing the subtitle, but not the title

I thought about starting a different blog since this originally was so specific to Tanzania. However, the last year or so has really been journey to learn to let go and trust God. So, I think the "No worries" title is appropriate, though it doesn't often reflect the state of my (Rebecca) heart. 1 Peter 5:7 has been a key verse for me for a while - "casting all your anxieties on him because he cares for you." This is often my prayer, that Jesus would help me cast my anxieties on him because I know he cares for me. I don't pray it enough. I need to pray it several times a day. Here's to our new adventure...
